D. Sean Howard

D. Sean Howard began his tenure as Superintendent of the Glasgow Independent School District on July 1, 2010.  Mr. Howard began his career in 1989 as a teacher and coach in the Cumberland County (NC) school district.  Subsequently, he served as a high school principal at Northampton-East HS in Conway, NC and later as the principal of Russell HS in the Russell Independent School District in Kentucky.  He later would serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Russell Independent Schools from 2006-2010.  Mr. Howard brings to the Glasgow Independent School District a forward-thinking leadership style, with vast experience in K-12 education.

Howard received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree from Morehead State University.  He has earned various educational credentials from Fayetteville State University (NC) and Eastern Kentucky University.

Superintendent Howard was named the recipient of the Service and Advocacy Award by the Kentucky Association of Gifted Educators in 2012.  This award is given annually to the individual in the state of Kentucky who has displayed “Exceptional service and advocacy in support of Kentucky’s Gifted and Talented Children and Youth”.

Sean met Mabel, a daughter of Cuban immigrants, while in NC and they were married in 1991.  They have four daughters; Sarah, Rachel, Rebekah, and Miriam.  Sarah is a graduate of Glasgow HS and is currently a junior at Northern Kentucky University.  Rachel is a senior at Glasgow HS and plans to attend Western Kentucky University this fall.  Rebekah is an 8th grader at Glasgow Middle School and has earned All-State honors in Cross-Country each of the last 2 seasons.  Miriam is a 3rd grader at Highland Elementary in the Glasgow Independent School District.  Mabel serves as a Regional Migrant Recruiter for the Barren County School District in Glasgow.
