National Merit Scholarship 2018 Semifinalists Named
National Merit Scholarship Program

Three Glasgow High School seniors are among approximately 16,000 semifinalists named Wednesday by the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program, which honors top academic ability and potential for college success. Adam Garrett, Rajeev Nair, and Garrison Page were chosen based on their scores in last fall’s Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, taken by about 1.6 million high school juniors. These young men represent less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.

Adam Garrett is the son of Mike and Lee Garrett. He is a member of the varsity soccer team and the senior class leadership team.  He also serves as a Student Ambassador for Glasgow High School. He volunteers with Kid’s Hope and offers free ACT help to his teammates. Adam earned a composite score of 35 on the ACT. He hopes to study Aerospace Engineering at Purdue or the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Rajeev Nair is the son of Harikrishnan Nair and Anitha Pillai. He is a member of the varsity soccer team, the academic team, and Student Y. He volunteers at a local nursing home as well as a local elementary school. Also, he currently job shadows a physician, which he hopes to become in the future. Rajeev earned a composite score of 34 on the ACT.

Garrison Page is the son of Chris and Shara Page. He is a member of the varsity football team, the academic team, and Student Y, while serving on the senior class leadership team. He also participates in the Lads to Leaders program offered at his church. Garrison earned a composite score of 35 on the ACT. He plans on majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

Approximately 90% of the semifinalists are expected to be named finalists in the spring. Finalists will be selected based on scores, academic and extracurricular records, recommendations, and essays. The number of winners in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the class of 2018. About half of the finalists will win a scholarship. The Glasgow Independent School system wishes these three young men the best of luck in their journey to becoming a National Merit Finalist.
