Public Forum & Special Called Meeting Notification
The Glasgow Board of Education will hold a public forum on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Glasgow Board of Education Central Office located at 629 West Cherry Street, Glasgow, Kentucky.   The purpose of the public forum is to discuss the proposed 4% increase in the tax rate.  Immediately following the public forum the board will hold a special called meeting to set the tax rate.

Special Called Meeting Notification

The Glasgow Board of Education will hold a special called meeting on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. at the Glasgow Board of Education Central Office located at 629 West Cherry Street, Glasgow, Kentucky.  The purpose of this special called board meeting is to approve the following:  final claims for the 2013-2014 school year; subscription to KSBA Customer Policy/Procedure Service; the bond of depository; appointment of board secretary; and the GHS band instructional assistant position.  For the purpose of evaluating the superintendent the board will enter into closed session for preliminary discussions relating to the evaluation of the Superintendent pursuant to KRS 156.557(4)(d) and KRS 61.810(1)(k).  Upon exiting closed session action will be taken regarding the summative evaluation of the Superintendent.

UK Girls STEM Opportunity

The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the Kentucky Girls STEM Collaborative are hosting a Girls STEM Day on UK’s campus, July 30th 10:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. ET for middle school girls. Participants will visit with faculty from agriculture, biology, chemistry, engineering and geology. Lunch will be served, and there is no fee for the program.  It is requested that girls register with Esther Edwards (859) 257-1993, eedwards@uky.edu or Elizabeth Farnsworth,elizabeth.farnsworth@uky.edu, before June 30. Special Called Meeting Notification

The Glasgow Board of Education will hold a special called meeting on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. in the media center of Glasgow High School located at 1601 Columbia Avenue, Glasgow, Kentucky.   The purpose of this special called board meeting is to approve the creation and posting of the position of itinerate Chorus/Performing Arts Teacher and the related job description.

The Glasgow Board of Education will hold a special called meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. at the Glasgow Board of Education Central Office located at 629 West Cherry Street, Glasgow, Kentucky.  The purpose of this special called board meeting is to approve the GHS Senior Band Field Trip, approve the position of itinerant teacher for an accelerated math program, and approve school nurse contracts for the 2014-2015 school year.
SBDM Council Parent Elections

SBDM determines school policy for many facets of school operations.  It brings together people who know best what all student need to learn and succeed in school – Parents, Teachers and Administration! Each school in Glasgow Independent will elect two parent members.  Nominations will be accepted between the dates of April 7-10, with elections being held on April 11th at the schools.  If you have any questions about SBDM or election procedures, please call Kelly Oliver at the Central Office, 270-651-6757.

State Testing Dates

Spring state testing dates have been selected for Glasgow Independent Schools.  Click Read More below for each school's testing schedule.  We ask that parents ensure that all students have ample rest, eat a good breakfast and necessary appointments be scheduled in the afternoons on testing dates.  We appreciate everyone's cooperation and support during state testing and look forward to the reporting of spring testing results in the fall that showcase our continued Scottie tradition of excellence.

Third nine week grade reporting will now end March 14 and grade reports will be distributed by March 21.

The Glasgow Board of Education will hold a special called meeting on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 5:15 p.m. at the Glasgow Board of Education Central Office located at 629 West Cherry Street, Glasgow, Kentucky.   The purpose of this special called board meeting is for the discussion of possible dates for a Board of Education, School Administrators, and District Administrators meeting for Goal Setting and Short/Long term Planning, to discuss a possible date for the Board of Education to acquire training from KSBA, and to enter into closed session pursuant to KRS 61.810(1)(c) for discussions of proposed or pending litigation against or on behalf of the public agency.

Emmalee Lawrence - Art Show at Cultural Center

GHS freshman Emmalee Lawrence has many art works in various media showing at South-Central Kentucky Cultural Center. The show will be on exhibit through February, and the Cultural Center's hours are 9:00-4:00 Monday-Friday and 9:00-2:00 Saturday. 

 

Notification of Special Called Board Meeting

The Glasgow Board of Education will hold a Special Called Meeting on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the library of Glasgow High School located at 1601 Columbia Avenue, Glasgow, Kentucky.  This meeting will be a joint session with the Barren County Board of Education, Caverna Board of Education, and area legislators to discuss current legislative issues and educational goals. 

January: School Board Recognition Month

January 8, 2014-Kentucky will again observe January as School Board Recognition Month and the Glasgow Independent School district is joining in the celebration.

The Glasgow Board of Education is composed of  Ms. Elaine Richardson, Dr. Amelia Kiser, Dr. Barret Lessenberry, Mr. Leigh Lessenberry and Mr. Wade Stone. 

“The voters of our community have created a special group of education leaders in this board,” said Superintendent Sean Howard. “They are true partners in the work to ensure every child in every classroom can experience high quality teaching and learning.

“When you consider how state and federal funding is shrinking, our school board has faced tremendous challenges, and it hasn’t flinched from its responsibilities,” he said. “Our community can be very proud of this team of board members, and I’m proud to be their partner working for education excellence for our children.”

Across the Commonwealth, Kentucky’s 173 public school systems will use January to recognize the work of the state’s nearly 862 local school board members.

The location of the December 9, 2013 Regular Board Meeting of the Glasgow Board of Education has been changed, therefore requiring this regular meeting to be cancelled and a Special Called Meeting to be called at the same date and time, Monday December 9th, 6:00 p.m.   The new meeting location will be in the library at Glasgow High School, 1601 Columbia Avenue, Glasgow, Kentucky.  The purpose of this meeting is to conduct business that would have otherwise been conducted at the December 9, 2013 regularly scheduled meeting.

The Glasgow Board of Education will hold a special called meeting on Friday, November 15, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. at the Glasgow Board of Education Central Office located at 629 West Cherry, Glasgow, Kentucky.   The purpose of this special called board meeting is to approve payment of claims, approve personnel actions, discuss and approve a revised job description for the position of Chief Information Officer/Technology Director, perform first reading of revised Board Policies 03.125 Expense Reimbursement-Certified Personnel and 03.225 Expense Reimbursement-Classified Personnel, and to approve an additional instructional assistant position for South Green Elementary.

Special Called Board Meeting
The Glasgow Board of Education will hold a special called meeting on Friday, October 25, 2013, at 5:45 p.m. at the Central Office located at 629 West Cherry Street, Glasgow, Ky.  The purpose of this special called board meeting is to create a part-time position at Highland Elementary School to reinforce reading and math skills by providing remedial services.

Senior National Beta

The National Beta Club holds annual state conventions in eighteen states.  There are eighteen Senior Beta and fourteen Junior Beta state conventions with activities ranging from academic contests to quiz bowls to talent competitions.  Conventions give the opportunity for members to interact, share project ideas, and showcase their academic and leadership abilities.    Kentucky’s 73rd Annual Senior Beta Convention was held December 13-14 in Louisville. 

Registration Open for Inquiring Minds Summer Academy

Inquiring Minds Summer Day Camp will be held at Highland Elementary and is open to any student entering grade 2nd-6th in the 2014-2015 school year.

Camp will run from Monday-Friday, June 9th-13th.  The camp begins at 8:30 and ends at 11:45.  The cost is $50.00.  Students will be provided breakfast, lunch and a camp t-shirt.   

At Inquiring Minds Day Camp, students will be offered fun and challenging course each day.  Follow the Read More link for more information about camp courses, instructors and registration.

Checks should be made payable to Glasgow Independent Schools and either mailed or brought to 629 W. Cherry Street (Central Office) to the attention of Kelly Oliver. ?  Registration is first come first serve and will close when we reach capacity.  Deadline to register is May 30th.

Brainiac- Attack Camp Registration

Registration for the 2014 Brainiac-Attack Summer Camp hosted by the GHS Academic Team is now open.  The camp will run June 3-June 6 for upcoming 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.   Click here to register.

Academic Team Scores Well at 6th Grade Showcase
Congratulations to Glasgow Middle School 6th grade Academic Team for their at 6th Grade Showcase.  They were the only school to place in all areas.  The Sixth Grade Showcase is an academic event designed to provide a competitive opportunity for Kentucky’s sixth graders. 
Band Crowned State Champions Again
The Glasgow Scottie Marching Band competed Saturday, October 26th  at Christian Academy of Louisville in the KMEA State Marching Band Championships Semifinals Competition in Class 2A earning a distinguished Rating, with a standing of 3rd overall, and the opportunity to advance into Finals Competition that evening.    The show was so entertaining and was performed with a distinguished level of achievement and refinement.  The band received Distinguished Ratings in all captions as they were crowned the 2013 Class 2A KMEA State Champion!  This is "back-to-back" State Titles for the marching band program AND the 3rd State Championship in 4 years.  A huge congratulations to all the students, staff, and parents on this huge accomplishment!

GHS Art Club Hosts Children's Art Enrichment
GHS Art Club members have hosted children's art enrichment classes for several years.  This year, students who attended the program many years ago are now leading it.  They will share with young artists how to create a variety of art works using paint, pastel, and clay.
SGE Students Selected for All State Choir

South Green Elementary students Briana Crowder and Drew Richardson were recently selected for the KMEA All State Children's Choir.  These students were selected by an audition process consisting of about 600 students auditioning throughout the state for the 207 member choir.  They will perform at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in concert in February during the KMEA music conference.

GHS ART SHOW WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Over 400 art works were exhibited in the halls at Glasgow High School's Art Show May 18th.

GHS STUDENT AMBASSADORS COMPLETE TEAM-BUILDING EXERCISE

The new GHS Students Ambassadors completed a team-building exercise at Weldon Park.

Winter Super Saturdays

WKU Center For Gifted Studies will hold Winter Super Saturdays February 1, 8, 15, and 22 at WKU Bowling Green Campus and the Kentucky Science Center in Louisville.  Super Saturdays encourages students in grades 1 – 8 who are of high ability or have high interest in a topic to pursue their passions outside the regular classroom. Through a hands-on, minds-on approach to learning, students explore and investigate math, art, science, history, writing, music and performance.

Children's Day 2013

Help us celebrate our 2nd Annual Children’s Day! This is a time dedicated to honoring and celebrating our children and looking for ways to improve our children’s welfare. With your support and generosity, last year over 800 children were helped through the Family Resource and Youth Services Centers at Glasgow City Schools, Barren County Schools and Caverna Elementary School as well as providing funding for the Backpack Program which provides food for children during the weekends.  Attend our Celebrating Children’s Day event at the Plaza Theatre on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 beginning at 6:00 pm. Admission for children is free and suggested donation for adults is $10. Limited seats, doors will close at capacity.

SUMMER CAREER CAMP -EXTENDED DEADLINE

Academy of Engineering Hosts Career Camp for current 7th thru 9th Graders.  Deadline for registration has been extended to Thursday, May 30th.  Lunch is provided daily and there is no cost for the camp.

Glasgow Independent Schools will hold open enrollment July 09, 2014 from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm at each school.

GHS Among Nations Top Schools

Glasgow High School was recently named among the 2014 US News Best High School.  GHS is a silver medal schools under this ranking.   Click here to see the rankings.

Special Olympics
The Special Olympics Track and Field competition was held Saturday, April 12th at Bowling Green High School's football stadium.  Glasgow had 11 athletes to participate.
